W

e are born our true selves, but through culture and family and peers we assimilate and internalise all their expectations; we learn to wear a mask or an animal skull as seen in Naoise Sheridan’s art. We become less. The body appears tense, at dis-ease with itself, a struggle, submissive.  Yet we yearn to remove the constraint of the skull. The more we engage with our real self, the tendency to self-actualize occurs.

The beautiful, relaxed pose of the two selves facing each other in full blossom can be seen. We come from the earth and return to the earth.  There is a love, we are put at ease when see how others accept themselves for who they are. Vitality increases, we are more attractive and open to closeness with others and we become more connected.
